Advances in bioinspiration

Bioinspiration involves drawing from nature's solutions to devise new, original, or more efficient systems in biology, chemistry, engineering, and beyond. Initially confined to mere imitation, such as replicating enzyme active sites or biosynthetic pathways, bioinspiration has evolved toward a deeper understanding. It now seeks to grasp and translate the underlying principles of natural processes to reconstruct them with sometimes radically different solutions.

The Bioinspirations event of this day provides a valuable opportunity to showcase the current diversity of this field. It also underscores how bioinspiration can lead us far beyond the traditional boundaries of biology.
